Palermo

Our journey begins with a walk around Palermo, where our apartment was located. Allegedly, Palermo is the Soho of Buenos Aires, but I have to disagree. It is a pretty neighborhood and there is an area with hip boutiques and restaurants, but the neighborhood feels much more open and residential and not quite as affluent and tourist-heavy as the New York Soho. Palermo seems much less defined by the food and shopping.

Jardin Japones

This is small, charming Japanese Garden and was a perfect destination walk from our apartment after we initially landed in Buenos Aires. We managed to avoid jetlag and walked for about four hours.

Recoleta

Recoleta Cemetary was amazing. Exploring this grand and ghostly place was fascinating. I could have taken photos for several more hours if Tom and I weren't desperate for a bathroom and cafe dobles. Some of the crypts are beautiful, some cold, and a few are ramshackle and sad. But it's not a sad place. There are places to sit and nooks and crannies for contemplation or people watching.
